Description: An EF-5 tornado ripped through Joplin, MO in May 2011, uprooting or debarking more than 10,000 mature trees. Reforesting this community will take many years and a steady supply of strong, healthy native tree species. Bare root seedlings are containerized each spring at Forest ReLeaf of Missouri's community-assisted nursery. There they are nurtured until ready for transport to Joplin where the young trees are distributed free of charge to residents for planting in their yards and neighborhoods.
